Beaujolais Powerhouse: Domaine Chapel—Saturday, March 1st

If the wines from new Beaujolais powerhouse Domaine Chapel taste like a fresh take on the wines of the region’s most legendary producers, it’s because that’s *exactly* what they are. David and Michele Chapel, the duo behind their namesake domaine, cut their teeth working on the front lines of the industry - she as a wine director for some serious spots in NYC, and he under the tutelage of the Lapierres - and their experience and knowledge sings out with each of their strikingly balanced wines. They might be newly established, but their wines floored us from the first vintage: Their Chiroubles is as pure an expression of that cru as we know, all wild strawberry and raspberry, a bright acidic burst, and wildflower aromatics, grounded by graphite and flint rock; from Julienas, they coax sarsaparilla and sultry red cherry, with struck stone and earthy underpinning; their Fleurie is an ethereal expression of old vine Gamay, marked by powerful aromatics, underbrush, and small red berries (currants, wild raspberries), vivid, alive, and almost weightless as it dances towards the finish.

On Saturday, we're welcoming Michele Smith to the bar to pour those 3 cru bottlings, their excellent Beaujolais Villages, and a mineral, fresh Aligoté sourced from right across the border into Burgundy. Come find out why this is undoubtedly our favorite new Beaujolais producer of the last several years!
