“One of the appellation’s leading domaines.”
— The Wine Doctor
We might be a couple of months away from the official start of summer, but us? We're not waiting for a date on the calendar to announce the arrival of our favorite time of year: Rosé season!
Every year, the start of the season brings new discoveries and surprising favorites to add to the set. But with every batch of new releases, Domaine du Haut Bourg's Rosé remains a perennial favorite.
Located in Bouaye, just outside Nantes in western Loire, Haut Bourg is a 4th generation estate in the heart of one of Muscadet's main subregions. Though they're most famous for their traditional, terroir-driven Muscadet, global warming has allowed red varieties to ripen more fully in this cool-climate area. Among them? Grolleau, a grape adored by hipsters and geeky wine writers alike.
Shy on the red fruits, this lean, taut, mineral-inflected blusher is the official color of warm weather, and goes down perilously quick. It's already a bargain at its bottle-one price of $14.50, but to celebrate the (spiritual) start of summer, we're offering it for an all-out steal. Try a 6-pack for $13 per bottle, or stock your fridge for the season with a case of 12 for only $11 per bottle.
